The sensation of burning on the tongue when eating spicy or hot foods is due to the activation of pain receptors in the taste buds. Spicy foods contain compounds like capsaicin, which can trigger these receptors and send signals to the brain that are interpreted as a burning sensation. Additionally, hot foods can physically damage the taste buds, leading to inflammation and discomfort. The burning sensation is a natural defense mechanism to alert us to potentially harmful substances and protect our mouths from damage. **

The movement of the tongue while chewing can irritate the piercing and cause soreness. Additionally, certain foods that are spicy, acidic, or hard can exacerbate the discomfort. This reaction is not harmful and usually goes away on its own after a short period of time. Drinking water or eating something else can help alleviate the sensation. **

The sensation of burning when eating kiwi is often due to the presence of an enzyme called actinidin. Actinidin is a protein-dissolving enzyme that breaks down proteins, including the ones found in the tongue. When the kiwi comes into contact with the tongue, the actinidin starts to break down the proteins in the tongue, leading to a burning sensation. This can be more pronounced in some individuals who are more sensitive to the effects of actinidin. **

Tongue or lip piercings can potentially interfere with eating, especially in the initial healing period. The presence of the piercing jewelry in the mouth can cause discomfort and sensitivity, making it difficult to chew and swallow food. Additionally, there is a risk of accidentally biting the jewelry while eating, which can lead to injury or damage to the teeth and gums. Over time, as the piercing heals and the individual becomes accustomed to it, the interference with eating may diminish. However, it is important to be mindful of the potential impact on eating habits and to take proper care of the piercing to minimize any interference. **
